On April 29, 2026, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the School of AI and Liberal Arts (SAI) jointly hosted the thirteenth “Beyond Boundaries” T&L Lecture Series to present the BNBU Survey on AI in Teaching and Learning. The survey was conducted in November 2025, and its full report was released in January 2026. This press release marked the public presentation of the report’s findings and recommendations to the wider BNBU community.
The event opened with a welcome address by Dr. Vivien Wai Wan CHAN, CTL Director and Acting Deputy Registrar, who highlighted the importance of evidence-based understanding in navigating the rapidly changing landscape of generative AI in higher education.

A total of 300 responses were collected across the university, including 74 teachers and 226 students from all faculties and relevant support units. This broad participation provides a representative picture of how AI is currently being used and where the greatest challenges lie across the BNBU community.

CTL and SAI staffs presenting key findings
The survey reveals notable differences in how teachers and students use AI, as well as a significant increase in student reliance on AI as they advance through their studies. These patterns highlight the growing integration of AI into daily academic life and concerns of overreliance.

Participants listened to the lecture attentively
The report identifies several key challenges, including gaps in students' ability to critically evaluate AI generated content, growing pressure on traditional assessment methods, and inconsistencies between official policy and everyday practice. In response, the report offers a series of systematic recommendations aimed at strengthening training, improving institutional support, and building the capacity of both teachers and students across the university.
The presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session, during which attendees engaged with the presenters on topics such as policy implementation and practical next steps for supporting responsible AI use across campus.

Q&A session
The release of this report marks a meaningful step in BNBU's ongoing effort to understand and respond to the realities of rapid AI adoption across its community, providing targeted support and contributing to BNBU's high quality educational development.
