Launch of the Peer Observation of Teaching (POT) Scheme

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Peer Observation of Teaching (POT) Scheme, a new initiative by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

Building on the experience of our Open Classroom Initiative (OCI), the POT Scheme offers a more focused, confidential, and developmental approach to peer observation and feedback this semester. It provides a structured 1-on-1 opportunity tailored to your specific teaching goals.

Key Benefits

Observee-Led & Formative: You choose the specific teaching skills to focus on (e.g., student engagement, pacing, technology integration). The process is purely for professional growth.

Strictly Confidential: All detailed notes and feedback remain only between you and your observer.

Support for Academic Promotion: Peer course observation serves as formal evidence for “Teaching Outcomes” (for observees) and contributes to “Internal Services” (for observers).

Recognition: Observees receive a Certificate of Participation; Observers receive a Certificate of Appreciation plus a gift card.

How to Participate (Simple 3-Step Cycle)

  1. Prepare: Complete the attached Pre-Observation Information Form. Then, log in to the MIS Survey System (https://mis.bnbu.edu.cn/survey/login.jsp) to register your session logistics, indicate any preferred observer, and upload your form at least two weeks in advance.

  2. Observe: Your matched observer will attend the class and take evidence-based notes using the Confidential Observation Form.

  3. Discuss & Complete: Meet shortly afterwards for a reflective discussion, then submit the signed POT Summary Form to CTL.

The POT Scheme Guide and all required forms are attached for your reference.

We warmly encourage you to take advantage of this valuable opportunity for targeted professional development and collegial support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (edithyan@bnbu.edu.cn) or Ms. Yao Wang (yaowang@bnbu.edu.cn).
