The "Beyond Boundaries" T&L Lecture Series, organized by the Centre for Teaching and Learning, is guided by its core philosophy: "Longitudinal historical perspective, Interdisciplinary integration, Dedicated educational craftsmanship, and Future-oriented vision." Through intellectual collisions across disciplines, the series aims to broaden perspectives and inspire profound thinking.
Speaker: Dr. Milen JISSOV is the Associate Director of Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Associate Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at BNBU. His current research focuses on the work of the German-Jewish philosopher, Hannah Arendt, and of the Polish-American Nobel laureate for literature, Czesław Miłosz.
Abstract: Outcomes-Based Teaching and Learning, or OBTL, has been the pedagogical philosophy of BNBU for more than a decade. It goes together with a particular method of assessment of student academic performance—Criterion-Referenced Assessment, or CRA. Since their introduction at BNBU, OBTL and CRA have become BNBU’s acquired pedagogical DNA. Close familiarity with it is absolutely essential for BNBU’s faculty and even staff. The purpose of this talk is to offer this familiarity. It is particularly suitable for new BNBU faculty, but all faculty and staff could benefit from it. The talk is also designed to answer any practical questions that faculty may have about student assessment and the design of courses and course syllabi in line with OBTL & CRA.
