Abstract:

Studying in English is hard for many Asian students - not just because of thelinguistic distance, but also because classroom instruction often fails to equipstudents with the skills to regulate their own learning. Self-regulated learning(SRL) is exactly that skill: planning, monitoring, and steering your own learning. This lecture will examine what motivates students to use SRL, and share concreteclassroom strategies that nurture independent, self-directed learners.
